An Nur Mosque in Pekanbaru - Indonesia

 

An-Nur Great Mosque is a mosque located in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1968. It is one of the grandest mosques in Indonesia. Seen from the side of the building, the mosque has influences from various architectural styles: Malay, Turkish, Arabic and Indian.

The mosque's Nur was built in 27 Rajab 1388 AH or 20 October 1968. It was inaugurated by Arifin Ahmad, the Governor of Riau and in 2000 was renovated during the time of Governor Saleh Djasit. The present structure is the result of refurbishment and redevelopment. In 2000 the mosque are tripled from 4 hectares to 12.6 hectares. The mosque was once a campus for the Faculty of Usul al-Din State Institute of Islamic studies (IAIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim Pekabaru from its founding until 1973. IAIN Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University is now the Sultan Syarif Kasim (UIN SUSKA) Pekanbaru.;
